Urban water industry in China is a critical issue facing new challenges and promotion. Spurred by dramatic changes in the awareness for water right and advanced technologies, regulatory policymakers and academics have focused more attention on the structure and regulation of the urban water industry. In order to address problems in urban water industry, a number of recent researches and efforts have been conducted in various aspects of water industry: some primary regulations on marketing water industry have been made to rule and promote the development of water industry; new ownership structure and investment structure are being or will be established and improved; changes in industry structure based on capital will happen for impulsing water industry; management approaches focusing on efficient and effective are concerned more in water industry; and technological innovation is still the main driving force for industrialization of water industry. The main purpose of the conference is to summarize the research achievements of series of "Senior Strategical Forums on Water Industry". Relevant respondents involved in water industry, including regulatory policymakers, chief managers of main water companies and academicians, will participate in the conference. Both the strategical and technological researches on water industry will be discussed on the conference with respect to the sustainable development of Chinese urban water industry. We will review the existing development and reform of Chinese urban water industry in 2003 and forecast and analyze the trends and chances in 2004 on one hand; we will also discuss the appropriate technologies and building-operation practices for urban water infrastructure on the other hand. The conference aims to create an open and friendly communication platform for various involved persons and to address problems in Chinese urban water industry.
